Background
Bo Thorstenson is a former Detective Inspector with a background in the Swedish judicial system. Through his long service with the Stockholm Police Authority, he gained extensive experience in criminal investigations and matters concerning legal certainty and the rule of law. His professional career has been characterized by a strong commitment to justice, the welfare of young people, and the safety and security of society.
In addition to his career in law enforcement, Thorstenson has been deeply involved in the preservation of cultural heritage, particularly through his work with the steamship S/S Orion. As Curator of the S/S Orion Project and a board member of the Friends of the S/S Orion Project Association, he has played a leading role in preserving this historically listed steamship. Under his leadership, S/S Orion has served not only as a living museum but also as a platform for youth engagement, providing young people with opportunities to participate in maritime heritage preservation and hands-on practical work.


For his efforts as a mentor to vulnerable young people, he was awarded H.M. The King's Medal in 2013, an honor bestowed only upon individuals with outstanding merits in public service and humanitarian work. This distinction recognizes his many years of dedication to guiding and supporting young people in difficult circumstances.
On December 14, 2018, Bo Thorstenson received the Gålö Foundation's silver medal, eighth size, for significant efforts to benefit vulnerable children and young people, for whom the foundation has had and still has and feels a particularly great responsibility.
In 2022, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Patriotic Society in recognition of distinguished achievements and significant contributions to society.
Thorstenson, who resides in Stockholm, pursued academic studies at Stockholm University. His life's work reflects a strong and consistent commitment to contributing to the development of society, both through his professional career and his extensive voluntary and charitable engagement.
